The Harvard School of Public Health began as a cooperative program between Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The School for Health Officers of Harvard University and M.I.T. opened in 1913 as the first formally organized school of public health in the U.S. The name of the school was changed to Harvard-M.I.T.
